Yesterday (Wednesday) I took my new road bike out for its first real trial. I rode about 9 miles in about 50 minutes. It was fun. And hot, about 100 degrees. I could feel the heat fatigue me and I stopped for water breaks at a few stop lights.
Today I ran a 5k on the treadmill at the gym. I’m running a race on the 4th, so I thought I’d better get a few runs in beforehand.
3 miles on the treadmill today. I signed up for a 5k on the 4th, so I’ve got to get some runs in beforehand.
Tuesday, day 138, I went to the evening yoga class. He gave us a full body workout! Afterwards I did my 100pushups app and May plank challenge. I did 2mins 45secs because I didn’t remember what I was supposed to do.
Wednesday, day 139, I had a busy day. I did a 30 minute run around a park. It was boring and hot but it got the job done. I forgot to do my 100pushups and plank, so I’ll skip my “break” day on Sunday to make up for it.
Today, day 140, I woke up early and went on a 10 mile bike ride. It was lovely, but a bit windy. I haven’t done my 100pushups and plank yet, I should probably go do that right now.
Tonight I’m taking my husband to the Dave Matthews concert to celebrate his birthday. Yay!
I went to yoga today and there was a sub. That’s always risky because at the gym, yoga classes are very different from teacher to teacher. Sometimes in a bad way. But sometimes you can find a great teacher because they subbed. Today was a lucky day, the sub was really good. I could tell she had studio experience. The class was interesting and challenging. I got her card at the end and sure enough she does teach at a studio as well. So I’ll be catching more of her classes for sure.
This evening I did my May plank challenge. Today was 2.5 minutes and it’s getting hard! I also did my 100 pushups app. Oh, and I walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes before yoga started. I would have run but I was wearing sandals, so I just put the incline up really high and walked fast. Hey it was still 150 calories I wouldn’t have burned otherwise.
Yesterday (Friday) both my kids are in school/MDO. I decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and go for a late morning run at a local nature preserve. My last run, earlier in the week, felt very off. This run felt much better, back in to my normal groove.
I intended to just do 5k. It was a little strange because I didn’t know the trails or how long each one was, so I had to stop at a few maps. I kept thinking how nice it felt, cool and breezy like it was just about to rain, despite the fact that it was in the 90’s a few days prior.
About two miles in, I decided to head off the paved path and on to a trail. It was beautiful and peaceful with trees and greenery surrounding the path. And as I ran on the poorly marked dirt trails, it began to rain. At first it was nice, slowly falling, and the leaves above me shielded me from most of the drops. As I made my way through the twists and turns of the path, the rain started to fall harder and the path got more rugged. At times, I had to stop and hike up steep inclines. Then the ground began to get slippery, which made the rocky inclines and declines trickier.
Then my trail dead ended in to a creek. If it hadn’t been raining and slippery, I could have jumped to the other side. But it was a long jump with a steep incline on the far side, and I didn’t want to break my ankle, or fall in. So I ended up half climbing through a dry creek bed, around fallen trees, low branches, and spider webs. Eventually I came back to the creek, a bit upstream, and was able to cross. I returned to the paved trail and hightailed it to my car in the pouring rain.
I did get in 3 miles, but it turned into a run/hike/adventure! Then I went and treated myself to some hot tea and sushi, because damn.
Edited to add that later that night I did my 90 seconds of plank and 100 pushups app for the day.
Yesterday (Tuesday) I did a 30 minute vinyasa flow, my 45 seconds of plank, my 100 Pushups app, and about 30 minutes of handstand practice. I took a video of myself, which is helpful because it’s hard to be aware of where your body is and what it’s doing when you go upside down. I’ve tried to upload it twice, but tumblr isn’t having it. :( That’s actually why this post is delayed.
Today I tried TWICE to get to Bodypump, but wasn’t able to make it either time. I was lucky that my husband got home from out of town early and that it was gorgeous out. I went on a 3 mile run instead. I hadn’t run since April 30 and this run felt off. I couldn’t get my cadence right, I felt like I was leaning forward, my knee hurt, then my heel hurt, then I got a stitch in my side and my rhythm just felt off. It was lame. It was so gorgeous out that I really just wanted to go for an easy, enjoyable run, but it just wasn’t so great. I came home and did 60 seconds of plank, my 100 pushups app and a bit of handstand practice. Calling it a day. Not sure what I’ll do tomorrow.
Last week’s 5k: 32.47. Today’s 5k with new shoes: 31.44. A full minute and 3 seconds faster. Nike, contact me for an official endorsement please. So that rocks. Before my race, I had thought that it’d be awesome if I could beat 32, and I did!
It was out in the middle of nowhere and I am guessing cell service was bad. I worked for an hour or so last night making a Spotify playlist for my race, but for the first mile, it was only playing 4 seconds of music and then pausing for 30 seconds. Thankfully, after I turned a corner, it started working properly. Musicless runs are no fun!
This run was really low-key, tons of walkers, kids, etc. I started off in the center of the group and kept getting stuck behind slow people. Next time I’ll start a little closer to the front.
After the race there was a German festival, and race participants got free entry and two free beers, so that happened. We’re finally home now, sweaty, tired and happy.
With today’s 5k, I officially achieved my Runnin’ Runnin’ monthly challenge of running 50 miles this month. YAY! Tomorrow I’ll go to my favorite yoga class and stretch myself back out. I’ll have to look up my challenge for next month and see what’s next.
