Last week’s 5k: 32.47. Today’s 5k with new shoes: 31.44. A full minute and 3 seconds faster. Nike, contact me for an official endorsement please. So that rocks. Before my race, I had thought that it’d be awesome if I could beat 32, and I did!
It was out in the middle of nowhere and I am guessing cell service was bad. I worked for an hour or so last night making a Spotify playlist for my race, but for the first mile, it was only playing 4 seconds of music and then pausing for 30 seconds. Thankfully, after I turned a corner, it started working properly. Musicless runs are no fun!
This run was really low-key, tons of walkers, kids, etc. I started off in the center of the group and kept getting stuck behind slow people. Next time I’ll start a little closer to the front.
After the race there was a German festival, and race participants got free entry and two free beers, so that happened. We’re finally home now, sweaty, tired and happy.
With today’s 5k, I officially achieved my Runnin’ Runnin’ monthly challenge of running 50 miles this month. YAY! Tomorrow I’ll go to my favorite yoga class and stretch myself back out. I’ll have to look up my challenge for next month and see what’s next.
I took my 4y/o to his first race this morning. He got up on time, got dressed, and was so excited to wear his number and run. He did the warmup, ran the half mile race and was so proud of himself when he finished. As they crossed the finish line, they gave all the kids a red ribbon. When they handed him his, he exclaimed, “I WON!!!!” and then he gradually realized that all the kids around him had the same ribbon. He slowly said, “waaaitttt, who won?” Later he saw the trophies and medals for the top finishers and wished he could have one. But we focused on having fun today, and he carried the ribbon around with him for much of the day.
For my workout, I ran a very hot, very sweaty 3 miles today. I went around 1:30 this afternoon, not intentionally. I just had other stuff going on until then, but boy was it hot. I took my new Nike Airmax shoes out for their inaugural run. Can a different pair of shoes make you faster? Because I knocked those 3 miles out in 32.10. For reference, I just did a 5k race at 32:47, and that’s at race speed and with a flat out sprint for the last .1 mile. This was a hot as hell 3 mile training run, which I usually do at 11 to 11.5 minute miles. I know that’s slow and I’ve been wanting to get faster, so I’m not complaining, but wow. I’m doing another 5k race tomorrow, we’ll see if it was a fluke.
So the 3 miles today took my Runnin’ Runnin’ monthly challenge up to 47 out of 50 miles for the month. Yay! After my 5k tomorrow, I should be finished, and a day early!
Double workouts, as in running and yoga. Double miles, as in two.
The two miles took me to 44 out of 50 miles for the month. I have three days to run 6 miles. I’m running 3 on Sunday at a 5k race, so I just have to do 3 tomorrow and I’ve got my monthly challenge in the bag! And a day early at that.
My yoga class was challenging today, in a good way. Lots of lunging and lots of twisting. She went about 20 minutes long too, and killed us with abs at the end. But that just makes you feel more delicious when you’re done!
I just signed my 4y/o up for his very first race tomorrow. He’s excited and I am too. It’s just right down the street, and it’s a half mile kids-only race. I thought I’d be able to run with him, but just found out that he’s on his own! He’ll be ok though, he said he could do it himself and I’ll can send him off at the starting line and meet him at the finish. It should be adorable.
Sorry for the boring blogging lately, I’m scrambling to finish my Runnin’ Runnin’ monthly challenge. I challenged myself to run 50 miles this month, but got a little behind due to schedule changes and a case of pleurisy.
Today my local running club had a “prediction run” which is where you guess the time in which you will finish running a 5k, and the person who guesses most accurately wins. It was hot and humid, so I guessed generously slow. I ended up coming in 30 seconds before my estimate, which is ok with me. The winner was within 4 seconds! So the 3 miles I did today takes me up to 42 miles out of 50 for the month. I have 4 days to run 8 miles.
I think I can do it!
Yesterday (Monday) I went on a 4 mile run on the local running trail I saw a snake. He was gorgeous. I looked it up and it’s a Speckled King Snake. I would a pair of (Spandex, not snake) running pants in that pattern! That run took me to 36 out of 50 miles for my Runnin’ Runnin monthly challenge.

Today I had planned on going to a yoga class and running a couple of miles. I dropped my 4y/o off at school but had to take him home an hour later because he developed a fever. So instead we spent the day hanging on the couch and playing board games. When my husband got home, I went to the gym and did 3 miles on the treadmill. That puts me at 39 out of 50 miles run for the month. I have 5 days to run 11 miles.
Yesterday (Sunday) I went to trampoline. I posted a photo from after class, but I forgot to actually blog about it. It was fun as always, sweaty, one of the most fun ways to work out! After class I played around with forearm balances and headstands.
Today I went to the gym. I normally just do yoga with my favorite instructor on Mondays, but since I’m so behind on my runnin’ runnin monthly challenge, I ran too. I did two miles on the treadmill before it was time for class. That takes me to 32 out of 50 miles run for the month. I have 7 days to run 18 miles. I’m going to try for 4 miles tomorrow and Tuesday.
In class we focused on the third chakra, the belly. After over a year of practicing yoga, I finally found ease in chaturanga. I’ve always struggled with that pose, first with my belly flopping on to the mat, then being able to go down but not push back up into updog. After asking every instructor I ran in to for tips, working on my upper body and core strength, and just practicing regularly, I finally found ease. I was at the point where I could do it a few times but then I’d get tired. Today I rocked it every time. I love that triumphant feeling!
I got up and ran a 5k this morning. It was in my town and the local running club was going. I did it in 32:47. Not my best but not bad for me. Now I’m waiting in line to pick up my Bountiful Baskets produce co-op.
The 3 miles I did today takes my monthly challenge up to 30 out of 50 miles. That give me 9 days to run 20 miles. 2.22 miles a day.
My lungs feel just about perfect today, and I haven’t taken anything for them in over 24 hours, so that’s good. I am scrambling to get my 50 miles run this month, so I ran today. I had a busy day helping out at the Earth Day festival at my son’s school, and this evening, my husband and I are going to Whole Foods where Alaskan Brewing Co is doing a five course dinner with beer pairings. Yum! So I had to squeeze my workout in, but I got it done.
I had planned to run outdoors, but it was rainy, so I headed to the gym. I did 3.25 miles at a 10 minute mile pace and felt great. I could have gone 5, but I ran out of time. Isn’t that always how it works? I put the treadmill on “random” so that it would randomly change the incline, but apparently it was broken because a few minutes into my run I realized that it wouldn’t change off zero incline. Annoying.
So after today’s run, my monthly challenge is at 27 out of 50 miles run this month. 22 more to go, and 9 days to do it in. 2.4 miles per day. We’ll see…
So I took my pleurisy ridden lungs for a run today. I had hoped to do 4 miles, but I scraped by at 2.75 because I started feeling some discomfort in my lungs. I don’t want to aggravate it, or injure myself, so I went ahead and called it quits. It was still an ok run, but a little disappointing to be so far behind on my monthly challenge. I’m at 23.75 out of 50 and I have 10 more workouts left in the month.
I’m trying to figure out how to do it, but it’ll really depend on my lungs I guess. As of tomorrow, I’ll have 10 days to take it up 26.25 more miles. That’d be 2.65 miles per day, which sounds reasonable, but I have other workouts to do too, trampoline, bodypump, yoga, etc. I will try! I think I can give it a good go, assuming my lungs will play along.
Writing this from my phone in bed. I’ve been busy planning a vacation so I haven’t thought about blogging. I have been working out though!
Yesterday (Thursday) I did a three mile run with my local running club, that takes my monthly challenge to 21 miles out of 50.
Today (Friday) I did yoga for the first time in over a week! It felt fantastic. I was able to do running man for the first time, which is always fun.
Will write more soon! Bodypump in the morning.
