In May I challenged myself to learn to do 100 pushups, and I did just that. I also did the May forearm plank challenge. I didn’t make it all the way to a 6 minute forearm plank. I did make it up to 3.5 minutes. I found that the 100 pushups AND extended forearm plank got REALLY hard when I did them together! I didn’t think that one through when I added the plank challenge. Oops! But I’m happy with my results.
This month is my water challenge. 90oz a day, every day for a month. Admittedly, today is the 2nd and I haven’t upped my water consumption. I’ll get right on that! I know I don’t drink enough water, so I am challenging myself this month in the hope that it will become a habit!
Here’s to a million pee breaks in June, bottoms up!
I had so been craving a sweaty, challenging studio yoga practice! I finally got it today. My schedule worked out just perfectly and I was able to make it to a vinyasa class. It was great, lots of sweating, arm balances, and some forearm balance practice. Plus a looong savasana. Perfect.
I also did my 100 pushups app for today. I’m at the point with the 100 pushups and May plank challenge that I can no longer do them both on the same day. So more planking tomorrow!
Today I thought about going to the gym for some AMT, or hitting Bodypump, but a friend invited my kids and I over to her place to swim. We went and ended up staying for a long time. Swimming with two small children almost counts as a workout itself, but I guess it’s more of a mental workout than physical.
She suggested we go for a bike ride. She had two bikes and two bike trailers, so we loaded the kids up and rode for 30 minutes. I did a little over 6 miles. It wasn’t a super long ride, so I tried to find some hard hills to hit so that I was still challenging myself.
I also did my 3.5 minutes of plank and 100 pushups app. Today was the first day that I literally did 100 pushups! Also, regarding the May plank challenge, is everyone doing the yoga plank or forearm plank? I’ve been doing forearm plank. I wonder which is harder.
Tomorrow I really am going to Bodypump.
Yesterday (Sunday) I normally do trampoline, but there was no class that day. Instead, I went for the worst bike ride ever. It was my husband’s birthday and we had a busy day scheduled. I had to squeeze in a 30 minute bike ride at dusk. I went down to the trail by the lake and it was bugapalooza. It was gross. It began with a bug flying in to my left eye right in front of the one mile marker. It STUNG the inside of my bottom eyelid and I pretty much jumped off my bike spazzing out in front of a dad and his son. I had to use my cell phone camera to get it out, but my eye still hurt. During the remaining 25 minutes, 2 other bugs flew in to my left eye, one tried to fly up my nose, and one may have flown in my mouth, I’m not 100% sure. Not to mention the 1000 that hit my face or body as I rode. GAK. Note to self, get sporty sunglasses to wear on my bike. Then I did my 100 pushups and 3 minutes of plank. This plank challenge is getting painful.
Today (Monday) I went to my favorite yoga class. I did 15 minutes of fast walking on a high incline on the treadmill beforehand. In my sandals, haha. The instructor has made a practice for each chakra and we do one each week. She forgot what week we were on and repeated last week’s practice. It was on the throat center. It’s a perfectly fine practice, but I had been looking forward to what she’d do for the 3rd eye practice. I have yet to do my plank/pushups, but I’ll go do those now.
I feel like I’ve been lazy lately. I’m thinking maybe an hour on the AMT tomorrow at the gym?
Tuesday, day 138, I went to the evening yoga class. He gave us a full body workout! Afterwards I did my 100pushups app and May plank challenge. I did 2mins 45secs because I didn’t remember what I was supposed to do.
Wednesday, day 139, I had a busy day. I did a 30 minute run around a park. It was boring and hot but it got the job done. I forgot to do my 100pushups and plank, so I’ll skip my “break” day on Sunday to make up for it.
Today, day 140, I woke up early and went on a 10 mile bike ride. It was lovely, but a bit windy. I haven’t done my 100pushups and plank yet, I should probably go do that right now.
Tonight I’m taking my husband to the Dave Matthews concert to celebrate his birthday. Yay!
I went to yoga today and there was a sub. That’s always risky because at the gym, yoga classes are very different from teacher to teacher. Sometimes in a bad way. But sometimes you can find a great teacher because they subbed. Today was a lucky day, the sub was really good. I could tell she had studio experience. The class was interesting and challenging. I got her card at the end and sure enough she does teach at a studio as well. So I’ll be catching more of her classes for sure.
This evening I did my May plank challenge. Today was 2.5 minutes and it’s getting hard! I also did my 100 pushups app. Oh, and I walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes before yoga started. I would have run but I was wearing sandals, so I just put the incline up really high and walked fast. Hey it was still 150 calories I wouldn’t have burned otherwise.
Yesterday (Monday) I took my kids on a school field trip. Four hours of wrangling children and animals at a farm/petting zoo. It was exhausting but fun. They got to ride ponies, feed baby pigs, milk a goat, see bunches of animals and more. I was pooped after I got home, but I rested a while, then headed out for a bike ride. I ended up going for an hour and doing 13 miles. It was a bit more challenging than my ride on Saturday because my legs were tired, but I still felt good enough to go for an hour at 13mph! I also did my 2 minutes of plank for the May plank challenge. 2 minutes is the first one that was getting hard for me. I skipped my 100 pushups app because I was le tired.
Today I hooked the bike trailer up to my bike and took the kids on an 8 mile ride. It was much slower with the trailer, but probably harder for me. Especially uphill, pulling 60ish pounds of kid in a trailer is not easy! Our little town is not really bike friendly, at least on the roadways. I looked at the trail map and figured out that I could take the kids to Braum’s (ice cream) almost completely on the trail. This wouldn’t be possible to do on the main road. So they were happy to get ice cream. I got a limeade, then we headed home. I also did my 2 minutes of plank and my 100 pushup app for the day.
Now, a shower!
Today I took my bike out. I did 10 miles at an average 12 mph pace (5 min miles). Confession: I like biking WAY more than I like running. And not just because my last run didn’t end well.
Biking fast and listening to Red Hot Chili Peppers today made me feel strong, fast and powerful. Running makes me feel good for about a mile, then I begin to count down the quarters of miles until I can quit. I feel slow, I battle with my mind, knowing that I *CAN* keep running, but fighting myself to push on. When I bike, I don’t even pay attention when my GPS announces another mile, I just listen to my average pace and try to make the next mile even quicker.
I didn’t set out for my ride today with any specific goal, but when I rode all the way to the end of the trial and back, and had gone 8 miles, I wanted to do 2 more. NEVER while running have I thought, ‘Hey this is fun, I want to do this for a while longer!’
So, I may be posting more bike rides from now on. I do intend to keep running, but I’d like to learn more about biking. I am definitely not a “Cyclist”. I don’t even have a snazzy bike outfit like every single other cyclist I see. But I’m going to try to learn more.
Oh! And edited to add that I also did my 100 pushups app and May plank challenge. I was supposed to do 1.5 minutes of plank but forgot how long I was supposed to go and did 1 min 45 seconds.
New monthly challenge this month is 100 Pushups! Pretty self explanatory, right? I started yesterday. I’m doing the full pushups, not knees down. I could do 4 to begin. I’m using the 100 Pushups app on my phone.
I’m also doing the May (forearm) plank challenge. I held it for 20 seconds yesterday.
