Phew! I can’t believe I remembered it all. I wouldn’t have been able to without checking my foursquare history! But that’s done. I promise to be a better blogger again.
I kinda forgot about my blog there for a bit. I was thinking about going to bed when I remembered that I should probably log my workouts.
Day 191 (Monday) I went to yoga at the studio in the evening. It was my least favorite teacher there, but it was still ok. Lots of twisting.
Yesterday (Tuesday) I tried out a boxing bootcamp in my neighborhood. One of the women here is a trainer and holds classes twice a week at 6 am and 7:30 pm in her garage gym. I had been considering going for a while, and she offered a free trial, so I did it. It was fantastic! A nice mix of cardio, weights and boxing. I was completely new to boxing but she is teaching me the moves and technique. I’m going back again tomorrow at 6 am!
Today I got my booty up and went to the 6 am yoga class at the studio. They offer it every week day, and in my head, I want to go every day, but I really struggle with getting out of bed. This morning, I just did it, and I’m so glad I did. It was a good class, lots of newbies though. The instructor was focusing a lot on teaching them the very basics and how to modify to make it easier. I am comfortable enough in my practice to modify to my own needs, often making a pose more difficult. I heard her telling the newbies behind me that they didn’t have to take the binds I was taking and such, haha. But I’m all about spreading the yoga love, and kudos to them for being there at 6am!
I’m off to bed, early morning boxing awaits!
Yesterday (Thursday) I went to the 7:30 yoga class at my gym. It’s with the instructor who makes his classes different and thought provoking. It was the first yoga class I’ve ever taken where we didn’t do a single downdog. His class is always challenging and interesting though. Afterwards I did my 30 seconds of plank and my 100 pushups app for the day. Inbetween pushup sets, I did headstands and forearm balances.
Today I was soreish from Bodypump and pushups. I have a yoga handstand workshop tomorrow, so I wanted to rest up and be sure that I am 100% for that. I was in a time crunch as well, so I did 25 minutes of fast-paced elliptical, my 30 seconds of planking and my 100 pushups app. I also swept and mopped my entire downstairs, which was a workout in itself!
I’m excited for the Intro to Handstand workshop at the studio tomorrow!
I forgot to blog yesterday, day 74. That’s mostly because I just did 45 minutes on the elliptical and there wasn’t much to say about it. I was a bit sore and stiff from the studio yoga class on Tuesday, so I took it fairly easy. I watched Ren & Stimpy. Don’t judge me.
Today I went back to the studio for another level 2-3 vinyasa flow. It was a different instructor but a similar class. The studio is so WARM compared to the gym. I leave completely soaked with sweat, and these aren’t hot yoga classes! It’s really kinda fantastic. The only problem I have with it is that I am so sweaty that I can’t do balancing poses! We tried side crow today and I couldn’t even begin to actually try it because my arms would just slide right off my legs, no matter how much I tried to dry them off. I gave up and tried regular crow and the same thing happened.
The instructor gave us a good 5 minutes to work on inversions, which was fun. I did a few headstands, then went and asked a girl to show me how she got up into her forearm balance. I’ve fallen twice trying to get into a forearm balance and now I find that I have a mental hesitation when I go to try it. I think I need an experienced spotter to build my confidence back up before I try again on my own.
I can see how studio yoga might be really addicting. It’s so much nicer than the gym. At the end of class, just before savasana, the instructor walks around and hands everyone a damp, cold, lavender scented towel. After 75 minutes of hard, sweaty yoga, this is pretty much the very best thing in the world.
So on Friday I usually do yoga. I was at Starbucks, literally about to leave to go across the street to the gym for yoga, when my phone rang. It was 4y/o’s teacher, she said he had been crying inconsolably for the past 15 minutes and was asking for her to call me. I was glad she called just when she did, otherwise I would have had my phone on silent for an hour and I would have felt so badly. So, I skipped yoga and headed over to pick him up. Because he wasn’t feeling well, I had to wait until my husband got home that evening to get my workout in. I just headed to the gym for an hour on the AMT. That thing makes me feel so accomplished when it tells me that I burned 708 calories in an hour! I watched Tosh.0 and South Park while I did it… and I wondered if other people were judging me on my juvenile television choices. I’m secretly a frat boy inside.
So I got home from the gym at around 9:30 last night, and was there again at 8:30 this morning for Bodypump. I worked that out with no problems, and was glad to have gotten my workout in early today.
Tomorrow, trampoline!
PS- I’ve worked out for SEVENTY days in a row!!!!
My running club normally runs Thursday evenings at 7:00. Although it was rainy today, and the temps dropped a bit, I still planned to go. When my husband got home and I told him I was going, he said it was cold and suggested that I go to the gym instead. And being a good wife, I heeded him. Haha, wait, no. I told him I was going running anyway. Then I went outside. It was cold, with a killer wind, and wet/puddles on the ground. So after wavering a bit more, I gave in and headed to the gym instead.
In the parking lot, I pulled up the GroupX schedule on my phone and realized that a yoga class began in 25 minutes! They must have added it recently, because the old Thursday yoga had a different instructor and was an hour earlier. I had a little time to kill, so I hopped on the AMT for 17 minutes. I love that thing, after only 17 minutes it told me I had burned 225 calories. I think myfitnesspal says a full hour of yoga burns 250. But that’s really all variable, especially depending on what yoga class you take and such. I don’t think my Nike Plus says I burn much more than that on a 30 minute run either, about 325ish.
Anyway, I used to avoid today’s yoga instructor because his classes are definitely different. But as my practice has grown, he has grown on me. Now I enjoy the change of routine and the creativity and playfulness he brings to his classes. After class, I practiced a headstand and we chatted about various inversions and ways to do them. It was great.
Just from walking from the car to the gym and back, I can safely say that I’m glad I didn’t go running this evening! Brr! Now I’m curled up by the fire with a blanket and a Dogfish Head Namaste beer. Getting sleepy, goodnight all!
Wellp, my monthly challenge to wake up first thing and work out isn’t going so well. I may forego the whole thing. I set my alarm for 5:00, woke up, thought LOL, went back to sleep until 7:30. So I am apparently not so dedicated to getting my workout out of the way before the rest of my family wakes up.
But that doesn’t mean I didn’t make time for a workout today! I just did 30 minutes on the AMT, and then it unexplicably turned off. So I moved over to the elliptical for another 30 minutes.
My shoulder feels better today. I think I’m good to go for yoga tomorrow.
Today was my 15th day of yoga this month, thus completing my monthly challenge to practice yoga 15 times this month. Woohoo. My yoga has gotten much better throughout the month, especially because I’ve been spending time doing extra upper body and core strengthening moves in the evenings or after cardio workouts.
My class today was with my favorite instructor. It was a fun and challenging class. We did some balancing half moon and warrior 3 work. After class, my instructor spotted me in a headstand, which was super helpful. She showed me how to place my hands and arms, and told me not to kick in to it, but to use my core. Which, of course, is harder. But it’s great to have an expert that you trust who can show you the technicalities on difficult poses like that, because sometimes it’s hard to get those details just from the internet/magazines.
My monthly challenge for March is “Get Up and Move”, wake up and exercise first thing in the AM at least 3x a week. Yikes!
Tomorrow I have a consultation for LASIK eye surgery! Yippee!!
On Mondays I normally do yoga with my favorite yoga teacher. There were two reasons I couldn’t go today. My two year old got kicked out of that gym’s childcare for two weeks and my 4 year old’s school had a tea with the principal this morning. I like going and chatting with the principal, so I decided to leave my two year old at home with daddy (who was off work today) and attend. Afterwards, I thought I’d go to the nearby yoga studio because they offer a lunchtime yoga class.
So I had a nice tea with the principal, but shortly before I was going to leave, I got an email from the yoga studio. It said all the classes today were cancelled because they were having an ant problem. Blech. So I decided to head to the gym instead. I got there and realized I was wearing sandals with my yoga clothes. This wouldn’t matter if I were doing a yoga class, because I practice barefoot. It isn’t really great for the cardio or weight equipment though.
So I looked over in my passenger seat and saw my yoga mat. I checked the gym schedule and the Group Exercise room wasn’t being used, so I decided to do my own yoga practice in the Group Exercise room.
I had never developed my own routine before, but I knew I was capable of doing so, and it went well. I worked on some of my favorite poses, some that were challenging to me (warrior 3!) and some that will help me build strength and improve my overall practice. I put Dave Matthews Band on my iPhone and had a lovely time.
Part way through my practice, an older Asian woman came in to the room. She did some various stretches, then began doing Tai Chi. I was flowing through my yoga, jamming to my music, and watching her flow and dance to the music was really lovely too. I hope I didn’t look like I was staring. I just thought it was neat.
Anyway, I practiced for about 45 minutes before I had to go get my 4y/o from school. I was happy to have gotten another yoga practice in, and happy that I was able to develop it myself!
I did 45 minutes on the elliptical today. I wanted to use the AMT, but the gym location I went to didn’t have any. I cranked up the resistance a bit and worked it out while I watched Futurama on my iPad. Annnnd, wellp, that’s about it!
