Phew! I can’t believe I remembered it all. I wouldn’t have been able to without checking my foursquare history! But that’s done. I promise to be a better blogger again.
Today I thought about going to the gym for some AMT, or hitting Bodypump, but a friend invited my kids and I over to her place to swim. We went and ended up staying for a long time. Swimming with two small children almost counts as a workout itself, but I guess it’s more of a mental workout than physical.
She suggested we go for a bike ride. She had two bikes and two bike trailers, so we loaded the kids up and rode for 30 minutes. I did a little over 6 miles. It wasn’t a super long ride, so I tried to find some hard hills to hit so that I was still challenging myself.
I also did my 3.5 minutes of plank and 100 pushups app. Today was the first day that I literally did 100 pushups! Also, regarding the May plank challenge, is everyone doing the yoga plank or forearm plank? I’ve been doing forearm plank. I wonder which is harder.
Tomorrow I really am going to Bodypump.
Yesterday (Monday) I took my kids on a school field trip. Four hours of wrangling children and animals at a farm/petting zoo. It was exhausting but fun. They got to ride ponies, feed baby pigs, milk a goat, see bunches of animals and more. I was pooped after I got home, but I rested a while, then headed out for a bike ride. I ended up going for an hour and doing 13 miles. It was a bit more challenging than my ride on Saturday because my legs were tired, but I still felt good enough to go for an hour at 13mph! I also did my 2 minutes of plank for the May plank challenge. 2 minutes is the first one that was getting hard for me. I skipped my 100 pushups app because I was le tired.
Today I hooked the bike trailer up to my bike and took the kids on an 8 mile ride. It was much slower with the trailer, but probably harder for me. Especially uphill, pulling 60ish pounds of kid in a trailer is not easy! Our little town is not really bike friendly, at least on the roadways. I looked at the trail map and figured out that I could take the kids to Braum’s (ice cream) almost completely on the trail. This wouldn’t be possible to do on the main road. So they were happy to get ice cream. I got a limeade, then we headed home. I also did my 2 minutes of plank and my 100 pushup app for the day.
Now, a shower!
Today I took my bike out. I did 10 miles at an average 12 mph pace (5 min miles). Confession: I like biking WAY more than I like running. And not just because my last run didn’t end well.
Biking fast and listening to Red Hot Chili Peppers today made me feel strong, fast and powerful. Running makes me feel good for about a mile, then I begin to count down the quarters of miles until I can quit. I feel slow, I battle with my mind, knowing that I *CAN* keep running, but fighting myself to push on. When I bike, I don’t even pay attention when my GPS announces another mile, I just listen to my average pace and try to make the next mile even quicker.
I didn’t set out for my ride today with any specific goal, but when I rode all the way to the end of the trial and back, and had gone 8 miles, I wanted to do 2 more. NEVER while running have I thought, ‘Hey this is fun, I want to do this for a while longer!’
So, I may be posting more bike rides from now on. I do intend to keep running, but I’d like to learn more about biking. I am definitely not a “Cyclist”. I don’t even have a snazzy bike outfit like every single other cyclist I see. But I’m going to try to learn more.
Oh! And edited to add that I also did my 100 pushups app and May plank challenge. I was supposed to do 1.5 minutes of plank but forgot how long I was supposed to go and did 1 min 45 seconds.
Day 84: Solo Bike Ride
Today I took 4y/o for a very slow bike ride. He rode his bike with training wheels, I rode mine. It was the first time that I’ve ridden a bike with him on a bike too. He did great though. I gave him two options to keep going or head home, both times he wanted to keep going. It wasn’t really a workout for me, I was going so slow I was wobbling!
So after we got home, I turned him over to daddy and went for a solo bike ride. I went fast this time, down the running/biking trail by the lake. I did 6 miles at about a 5 minute and 30 second mile pace. It was fun. Something about this gorgeous weather makes me want to go for bike rides, and this was a great alternative to a run.
The trail was a bit muddy. I went down 3 miles and then turned around and came back. On my way back, I stopped to say hello to a little friend.
It was a crazy gorgeous day today. I bought a secondhand bike trailer, hooked it up, plunked the kids on it and we went for a 45 minute bike ride. It was kinda hard to pull them up hills, but I was supposed to be getting a workout so I pushed hard! For the most part it went really well. Riding a bike makes me feel like a kid again.
