Last week’s 5k: 32.47. Today’s 5k with new shoes: 31.44. A full minute and 3 seconds faster. Nike, contact me for an official endorsement please. So that rocks. Before my race, I had thought that it’d be awesome if I could beat 32, and I did!
It was out in the middle of nowhere and I am guessing cell service was bad. I worked for an hour or so last night making a Spotify playlist for my race, but for the first mile, it was only playing 4 seconds of music and then pausing for 30 seconds. Thankfully, after I turned a corner, it started working properly. Musicless runs are no fun!
This run was really low-key, tons of walkers, kids, etc. I started off in the center of the group and kept getting stuck behind slow people. Next time I’ll start a little closer to the front.
After the race there was a German festival, and race participants got free entry and two free beers, so that happened. We’re finally home now, sweaty, tired and happy.
With today’s 5k, I officially achieved my Runnin’ Runnin’ monthly challenge of running 50 miles this month. YAY! Tomorrow I’ll go to my favorite yoga class and stretch myself back out. I’ll have to look up my challenge for next month and see what’s next.
My lungs feel just about perfect today, and I haven’t taken anything for them in over 24 hours, so that’s good. I am scrambling to get my 50 miles run this month, so I ran today. I had a busy day helping out at the Earth Day festival at my son’s school, and this evening, my husband and I are going to Whole Foods where Alaskan Brewing Co is doing a five course dinner with beer pairings. Yum! So I had to squeeze my workout in, but I got it done.
I had planned to run outdoors, but it was rainy, so I headed to the gym. I did 3.25 miles at a 10 minute mile pace and felt great. I could have gone 5, but I ran out of time. Isn’t that always how it works? I put the treadmill on “random” so that it would randomly change the incline, but apparently it was broken because a few minutes into my run I realized that it wouldn’t change off zero incline. Annoying.
So after today’s run, my monthly challenge is at 27 out of 50 miles run this month. 22 more to go, and 9 days to do it in. 2.4 miles per day. We’ll see…
I went to the gym and ran 3 miles today. I set the treadmill on random again, today it did lots of downhill for some reason. That puts my monthly challenge at 17 miles out of 50.
Immediately after, I went and had fajitas and beer. At least I ran! Tomorrow I think I’m Bodypumping.
Stopped by Whole Foods today…

I managed to swing a studio yoga class today, which doesn’t happen often. It was fantastic! It was a 75 minute class, level 2-3 (intermediate to advanced) and it was sweaty, challenging and just what I needed. After practicing at the gym for so long, the basic classes get boring. The higher level studio class was exciting and challenged me in a way that the gym class hasn’t been doing. I am going back again on Thursday.
The only downside is that it’s obviously more expensive than the gym, especially when I’m paying for studio classes, childcare and the gym membership! This particular studio has a childcare place downstairs and gives 20% discounts to customers of the yoga studio, but it was still $9 for them to watch my 2 y/o, the 4 y/o was in a spring break camp down the street today and Thurs.
After yoga, I went to the chiro and got adjusted. Hopefully that’ll fix whatever I crunched when I tried a post-beverage forearm balance the other day, lol.
I just practiced a headstand and it was ok. I am afraid to practice the forearm balance again! I’ll do it with someone spotting me… and after I’m warmed up.
My running club normally runs Thursday evenings at 7:00. Although it was rainy today, and the temps dropped a bit, I still planned to go. When my husband got home and I told him I was going, he said it was cold and suggested that I go to the gym instead. And being a good wife, I heeded him. Haha, wait, no. I told him I was going running anyway. Then I went outside. It was cold, with a killer wind, and wet/puddles on the ground. So after wavering a bit more, I gave in and headed to the gym instead.
In the parking lot, I pulled up the GroupX schedule on my phone and realized that a yoga class began in 25 minutes! They must have added it recently, because the old Thursday yoga had a different instructor and was an hour earlier. I had a little time to kill, so I hopped on the AMT for 17 minutes. I love that thing, after only 17 minutes it told me I had burned 225 calories. I think myfitnesspal says a full hour of yoga burns 250. But that’s really all variable, especially depending on what yoga class you take and such. I don’t think my Nike Plus says I burn much more than that on a 30 minute run either, about 325ish.
Anyway, I used to avoid today’s yoga instructor because his classes are definitely different. But as my practice has grown, he has grown on me. Now I enjoy the change of routine and the creativity and playfulness he brings to his classes. After class, I practiced a headstand and we chatted about various inversions and ways to do them. It was great.
Just from walking from the car to the gym and back, I can safely say that I’m glad I didn’t go running this evening! Brr! Now I’m curled up by the fire with a blanket and a Dogfish Head Namaste beer. Getting sleepy, goodnight all!
